Instructor's Synopsis: Students' registration

This page contains key information for instructors using the Inspire system in their courses. We encourage you to look at the Instructors' Notes for more details.

The negotiators are paired anonymously and partners can be from anywhere across the world. We would appreciate it if you would not make any comments to the negotiators about anonymity or about partners. Each individual is implicitly free to develop whatever relationship he or she wishes, including introducing themselves to each other through Inspire or maintaining full anonymity. We should mention that we record students' exchanges for our study on cross-cultural communication and decision making. These records are kept confidential and not disclosed to anyone, including instructors.

There are two alternatives available for an instructor to register his or her class to Inspire negotiations: on-line and via email. Please use the on-line registration if at all possible. The email registration should be used only if your students don't have email accounts or if you cannot notify them prior to the beginning of their negotiations.

Please note that:

  1. We organize Inspire negotiations once a month.
  2. The negotiations take three weeks (extension is possible upon both negotiators' request).
  3. The deadline for accepting students' registration is 10 days before the beginning of negotiations.
  4. Instructor receives the list of the registered students one week prior the beginning of negotiations.
  5. One day before the negotiations begin we send an email to students notifying them that the negotiations begin. This email contains their user and negotiation names.

On-line Registration

To register on-line, you may fill in the form below. Please note that:

  • Typically the negotiation name is the same for a group of students (we suggest that as the name you use one word without a space).
  • The negotiation name, together with the user name, uniquely identifies an Inspire negotiation.
  • Students who negotiate with other students from the same group (university) should have different negotiation names. We try to avoid such a situation but occassionally this may happen. In this case please fill in two separate forms; one for each side.

After you submit this form your students will be able to register using a form on a Web page. In the next section "Information required from your students" we provide information on what you need to tell your students and what they should do.

Please select the most suitable negotiation starting date for your group:
 Organization  Course ID (number)
 Instructor's last name  Instructor's e-mail address
Country of your group  Number of students
Expected starting date  Expected completion date
 Registration Deadline  Negotiation name

name="starting_date"> name="completion_date"> name="reg_deadline">

You may find the InterNeg's Inspire negotiation materials, handouts and assignments, useful preparatory materials for your Inspire negotiations.

Information required from your students

All students participating in the negotiations should register themselves on-line by selecting the Web page at the following URL:

http://interneg.org/interneg/training/groups/Negotiation name.html

where: "Negotiation name" has to be replaced with the name you entered in the form above.

Please give your students the URL of this page. When the visit the page they will be see information about the incoming negotiation name and starting date. They will also be asked to enter the following information:

  1. User name  A single word without any special characters. Preferably not their real name, however anything is acceptable.
  2. Real name This is not necessary but useful if we have to communicate with the instructor.
  3. Email address If we do not get students' correct email address we cannot communicate with them.

You may also mention that all login procedures are case sensitive. One day before the negotiations begin every registered student receives a confirmation email. This email contains information required to log into the Inspire system.
