Dictation Text #1

Avoiding: Negotiating parties may approach conflict and decide to avoid it. If a negotiator neither pushes for his own objectives nor shows concern for the other’s objectives, he is avoiding the conflict. Avoiding is akin to withdrawal from the conflict situation. The consequence is that the other person can do what he wants. Avoiding is an approach that may be used when a negotiator fears conflict, when the issues are seen as too insignificant to bargain over, or when he/she wants to stall or delay a negotiation. The consequences are that the opponent and the conflict may "go away", or that they may be put off to a future time.
