INSPIRE in Education

INSPIRE is gaining popularity as a learning tool with various college and university programs in Canada and around the world. Among the participants, we have had groups of students from:
University of Vienna, Austria;
the Helsinki School of Economics, Finland;
Turku University, Finland;
the Warsaw School of Economics, Poland;
the Chelyabinsk Technical University, Russia;
Universidad Tecnologica Equinoccial, Ecuador;
Universit Telekom, Malaysia;
the Abo Academy in Turku, Finland;
Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada;
the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, India;
McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada;
Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, Canada;
the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration in Helsinki, Finland;
Hong Kong Baptist University, in Kowloon, Hong Kong;
the Sloan School of Management at MIT, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA;
Katowice University of Economics, Poland; and
Chemnitz Technical University, Germany.

At Memorial University of Newfoundland, MBA students taking a core Information Systems course (Business 8205) used the system to negotiate with students in a fourth year Decisions Support Systems class at Carleton University (Business 42.446). Both classes then wrote reports considering the future development of negotiation support technology like INSPIRE.

Carleton University students taking a fourth year course called "Operations Research II" (42.435) used INSPIRE during the winter term of 1997; they then wrote a report evaluating INSPIRE's preference system and their overall experience of negotiating with the software.

Students from the MIT Sloan School of Management used and evaluated INSPIRE as part of their Power and Negotiation course (15.665). They made interesting comments about the system and its use in supporting negotiations.

More information about the use of INSPIRE in teaching and training, sample assignments and handouts are available in InterNeg's Learning and Training Department.
